The Lonsdale Street Greek Festival is held in late March to early February.

The Lonsdale Street Greek Antipodes Festival is something that has a very significant history and is something extremely important to the Greek culture.  The festival first started to honour a Greek female politician, actress and singer named Melina Mercouri who wanted to create this festival.

Many people visit the Antipodes festival every year.  To always remember Melina Mercouri and her contribution to the introduction of the antipodes festival, a restaurant called ‘Melina On The Rooftop’ has been constructed right next to the festival on Lonsdale Street.

Many businesses sell their products at the festival.   There is a wide range of products being sold such as jewellery/accessories, skincare and food.

At the festival there are also many activities which children can participate in and keep them entertained.  There are things like face painting and rides.

Sydney and Adelaide are also other places in Australia which have Greek festivals like the Antipodes festival.

At these festivals, there is singing, dancing, lots of Greek and Cypriot cuisines and there are also Greek singers from Greece who attend these festivals every year.

Greek foods at the Antipodes festival:   Souvlaki, loukoumades (Greek doughnuts), gyros, frappe.
